Weekend Random- Revisiting Crazy

Posted By on August 25, 2008

Due to Tropical Storm Fay’s presence all week (hmm, have I not complained about her yet . . .), ABSOLUTELY nothing interesting or noteworthy happened. The only random I’ve got this weekend is my very own mood swings. We’ll recap with the mightiest of them all.

The husband is slightly anal when it comes to being on time. No, scratch that. Very, very anal. So much so that if we aren’t walking out the door as the clock is switching over to the minute we’re supposed to leave, a meltdown is in the works. This morning I mentioned that we didn’t need to leave for church as early as we normally do, since E isn’t taking her morning nap anymore in the car. I said that around 10:30, we should go.

At 10:28, E was sitting on the couch and Choo Choo Soul came on. The two minute clip (see where this is going?) is like crack to her, so I told the husband to just let her watch it. I was in the kitchen gathering up her snacks and water. I used those next two minutes to grab some diapers, and start folding them up to put in my bag. The show ended and the husband scooped the kid up and breezed past me, heading out the door. E was missing an integral part of her diaper ensemble and I asked if he was planning on putting it on her. Through huffing and puffing, it was put on. And then he breezed out the door. And that was where the breakdown started.

Apparently, the time it took me to turn off the lights (which he had so kindly left on), and grab the diapers, food, church toys and my debit card was enough to make us ridiculously late. So much so that Mr. Husband left the child strapped in her carseat, in the running car in the driveway, and came inside to shuffle me out the door, despite me trying to get out the other door to get my shoes.

It just went down hill from there, escalating during the whole drive about those 7 minutes that I robbed him of. Major communications breakdown. Exactly at 10:30, around 10:30. You say tomato, I say you’re wrong.

We did not make it to church.

Why, you ask?

Well, because I pulled a stunt that has been pulled by probably every married woman in my family and at least two women in the husband’s family. In fact, I recall going with my new boyfriend (the husband) to pick up his mom who had walked a good three miles down the road.

Yes. I got so ridiculously pissed that I bailed out of the car at a stop light. And proceeded to walk a mile back in the other direction before relenting and climbing back in the car. And I only did that because of E.

And an hour later, we didn’t hate each other anymore and had a pleasant afternoon.

Dear Hormones,
Make like that tropical storm and get the hell out of here.
Sincerely,
The Girl Who’s Bringing Crazy Back

Yet another tale that makes me suspect we might just be married to the same man. Maybe it's the military thing, but my Mr. Husband is the same way, even when the destination is somewhere that doesn't really require promptness. Makes. me. crazy.

I pulled that move just a few weeks ago. Except I stormed out of a restaurant, mid-drink order, with baby in tow. We then got into the car and drove about 2 minutes before I stopped the car and bailed on him again.

My guy is the same way, but he has learned that if he heckles me about it I only go slower.

  4. Kim says:

Yeah, once I threw a plate of leftover party food in Derek's lap because he was yelling at me for not making it out of said party when he wanted to. He deserved it :) Some boys just don't know when to leave it be.

  5. Trenches of Mommyhood says:

THAT is classic. Can't say that I've tried it yet though. Good to know!

  6. Tracy K says:

I totally empathize! My husband is exactly the same way and my dad was also obsessed with being punctual.

Something about getting to church on time seems to make it worse, too. We've had many an argument trying to get out the door on Sunday.

  7. Coal Miner's Granddaughter says:

This is why we don't go to church. ;)

  8. Not Afraid to Use It says:

Ah damn. I haven,t done that to Hubbie yet, but I haven,t ruled it out for the future.
