The Day Will Come When We Can’t Fool Her Anymore

When bribery, threatening, pleading, ignoring and straight begging don’t work . . .

Ten little lima beans, sittin’ on the plate!
One fell off and done got ate!
Mama called the doctor and the doctor said
“No more lima beans, sittin’ on the plate!”

Nine little lima beans, sittin’ on the plate!
One fell off and done got ate!
Mama called the doctor and the doctor said
“No more lima beans, sittin’ on the plate!”

Eight little lima beans, sittin’ on the plate!
One fell off and done got ate!
Mama called the doctor and the doctor said
“No more lima beans, sittin’ on the plate!”

Seven little lima beans, sittin’ on the plate!
One fell off and done got ate!
Mama called the doctor and the doctor said
“No more lima beans, sittin’ on the plate!”

Six little lima beans, sittin’ on the plate!
One fell off and done got ate!
Mama called the doctor and the doctor said
“No more lima beans, sittin’ on the plate!”

Five little lima beans, sittin’ on the plate!
One fell off and done got ate!
Mama called the doctor and the doctor said
“No more lima beans, sittin’ on the plate!”

Four little lima beans, sittin’ on the plate!
One fell off and done got ate!
Mama called the doctor and the doctor said
“No more lima beans, sittin’ on the plate!”

Three little lima beans, sittin’ on the plate!
One fell off and done got ate!
Mama called the doctor and the doctor said
“No more lima beans, sittin’ on the plate!”

Two little lima beans, sittin’ on the plate!
One fell off and done got ate!
Mama called the doctor and the doctor said
“No more lima beans, sittin’ on the plate!”

One little lima bean, sittin’ on the plate!
He fell off and done got ate!
Mama called the doctor and the doctor said
“No more lima beans, sittin’ on the plate!”

No more lima beans, sittin’ on the plate!

. . . making a complete spectacle of yourself at the dinner table will. Enthusiastically singing that last round (complete with hand motions), with one little lima bean left, is so satisfying. Tricking the toddler into eating foods she normally loves, but is refusing out of pure stubbornness, has never been so fun.

Thank God our video camera always has a dead battery.

Oh, you have the patience of a saint. I'm typically all, "OK, not eating the dinner? No cookies." Yeah, I'm original that way.
