Where’d You Go, I’ve Missed You So
Posted By jayna on November 21, 2009
It all started with a little trip to DC for the husband. He stayed in a funky hotel, hung out with friends and went to a handful of job interviews.
The rest of us stayed home and proceeded to get sick.
Then, the husband came home and, of course, got sick as well.
Swine flu, common cold, allergies, ear infections, reactions to antibiotics, and general crap has plagued us the past three weeks. Just for fun, we’ve had a few teaser days of health thrown in, only resulting in massive amounts of pain and suffering the following day.
Every single person in the house has been hacking up a lung for days now. Even the cats have joined in the hack up of things. They just couldn’t be left out. Nor could they be left out from the doctor bills and antibiotics, as proven by the one with the UTI that had been peeing all over the house. Nothing like a new carpet and kid’s toys to bring about an ultimatum for the feline set.
It is sad to realize one day that giving antibiotics to the cat is far easier than giving them to the six month old.
Add in a broken car, cabin fever, routine mind games from Grandma, a sewing to-do list six miles long and some mildly crappy weather and things just fall apart by the end of the day. Emails go unanswered, computers get turned off and into bed we all fall.
Blogging kinda gets the short end of the stick when the baby is vomiting all night, or the toddler only wants to cuddle all morning. So does showering. And all the other fun things, like paying bills and returning library books and going to the grocery store. Thank goodness we already had 14 boxes of spaghetti stocked up.
NoBloNoMo. I’m setting my own trend over here for the month.
But, onward we go. With a hacking, fitfully sleeping, too long for my lap baby asleep on my chest and a guilty looking cat curled up at my feet, I’m quietly typing in the dark, listening for the sounds of the toddler falling out of bed.
All is getting back to normal on the Midwestern front.
Though, it’ll soon be the Eastern front, cause y’all . . . we’re moving to Maryland. Break out the crabcakes and feign joy with me.

sounds like you guys have had more then your fair share of sickies…hopefully you'll have a long spell of health now.
And congrats on the move to Maryland. What part are you moving to? I grew up in Annapolis, my folks still live there so I get back to visit as often as i can.
Who is the Feenster going to play with? We will miss you.
So glad you've survived those tough three weeks. And huge congrats on your husband's new job and your impending move (did that sound joyous enough ;o)
whoa big news! Congrats! :) Good job on surviving the past three weeks… sounds incredibly sucky!
Just a few more weeks and you'll be freeeeee! So excited that y'all will finally be moving, even if it's not to the "perfect" place. We already know that you will make it the perfect place. You haz mad skillz.
My sweet husband is from Fallston, MD. Where ya moving to in MD? Congrats on the move and hope you and your family are better soon!
I hope everyone is on the mend-good luck with the upcoming move.
The things we won't do for our husbands. I blame him for me tolerating the knee deep and sometimes hip deep snow here in the winter.
