Round And Round We Go
Posted By jayna on January 21, 2010
I spent a grand total of 7 hours trying to get my children to sleep yesterday.
SEVEN HOURS.
Each time the toddler would jump out bed, and each time MJ would rustle and cry, my heart would just shatter. There are so many things I have to do. So many things that just keep piling up. Each sway of the rocking chair swished another bit of anger into my head. Boxes won’t pack themselves. Orders won’t get sewn on their own. And we’re nearly out of clean dishes, clean underwear and clean diapers.
So far, today isn’t looking much better. Naptime brought a complete room tornado for one, and a whole 8 minute sleep for the other.
And?
The Christmas tree is still up.
Because I keep waiting. Waiting for a time when I can carefully pack away all of the ornaments for next year without setting E in time out every two minutes for touching the breakable ones, or without pulling MJ away from the electrical cord and branches and boxes and everywhere else she bolts to.
But, that time only seems to come in the wee hours of the morning.
And I sure am not going to be standing in the living room at 3 am, boxing up glass and unwinding beads.
So, up it stays.
Thank goodness it’s fake.

I wish I had some advice on the sleep issue, but if it makes you feel any better, my tree is still up too. I just don't have a single ounce of motivation to take it down. Jack loves the tree and I hate packing the ornaments in their boxes. I swore that I was going to take it down on Monday but
it didn't happen. Maybe Saturday.
If you need help packing or child wrangling let me know-I am excellent at both.
Today i had to fill out 14 pages of paperwork for hubbys hopefully new job, want to know what mom of the year did?? Handed a pen to the toddler with some paper, and about 4 cookies to the baby, that gave me 10 minutes of peace and quiet, to get 10 more minutes I gave the toddler a flashlight and the baby the remote to chew one, and so on. Nowadays I have come to the conclusion, we need to break all the "rules" in order to get anything done..lol
Best. photo. ever.
And @tehamy is totally telling the truth. Her tree is, indeed, still up. I'm making fun of her for it because this is the first time I've EVER gotten all of my trees down before Valentine's Day.
OMG I remember those days. Hours and hours of rocking only to have them sleep 13 minutes on their own. Strength, my dear. I know it feels like it will never get better, but eventually it has to.
HaHa I love the pic.
I feel ya on the sleeping. It's a constant battle. Just when you think they have it straight they throw a kink in things somewhere. Hope it gets better very very soon!!!!
