Mine! Mine! Mine!

Last night, for the first time, E took MJ down. End over end, right onto the hardwood floor. The husband and I were each just out of reach, yelling in stereo for her to stop and let go.

A two year old can be rather stubborn when it comes to a threat to her most favorite toy of the moment.

It was that sickening thud that drove home the point that it doesn’t matter how many times I break it down to her. No matter how many times I explain that she is too little to understand how to share and it’s our jobs to show her. Or how many times I reiterate the proper protocol for toy protection – call for Mommy and she’ll move the baby. No matter what, she’s two. And she’s going to act two whenever she damn well feels like it.

Thankfully, the two-ness has been keeping a fairly low profile lately. The Mommy Alert system works 50% of the time and pure distraction fills the rest of the time. Nothing like spotting something better to play with and skipping the drama.

We’ll see how it goes when the novel distraction of boxes of “new” toys starts to wear off.
