Early In The Morning
Posted By jayna on March 9, 2010
Early each morning, as the sun peeks over the ridges in our backyard, she creeps around the my side of the bed. Her tiny, little hand reaches up and touches my cheek. Or my side. Or my butt. Whatever is sticking the most out of the covers is fair game. She knows the rules and manages to wait patiently until I blearily squint at her, waiting for the one phrase I always hear.
“I’m hungry.”
Without her 6am bowl of “snack”, the world absolutely cannot be right. She sits quietly in her room, in her special chair, and watches the world wake up outside her window.
And then, with a full belly and freezing feet, she climbs back in bed with me and fidgets and wriggles and pokes and squirms, all in the name of early morning cuddles.
I tell her to shush, and I beg her to keep still. But really, my day just doesn’t begin right without being poked in the stomach with an ice cold toddler foot.
The giggles and the cuddles. That’s what we’ll remember in ten years. Not the time on the clock.

oh how I need to remind myself of this when I hear ‘GOOD MORNING!’ from the hallway at 6:30am ;)
My favorite picture ever and awesome post. I will try to remember this the next time I am awaken at 5am with “I am soooo hungry mommy”..lol
