One Of The Most Wonderful Times . . . (You Capture – Autumn)
Posted By jayna on October 28, 2010
Fall really is my favorite time of the year . . . when it is still actually fall. As I watch the snow gently cover the grass, I’ll proclaim winter to be my favorite time of year, and then spring with the fresh air and new buds. Summer is always a favorite when the sun is shining and bathing suits are on. But right now, fall it is.
The few years spent waiting for the seasons to turn in our Savannah houses brought about a new appreciation for the cooling months and changing leaves.
So did having kids.
E’s bookbag comes home from school filled with leaves she collects on the playground, each more important than the next. Afternoon walks are set against a backdrop of fiery colors brought to life with the setting sun. The final bounty from the garden is carefully dug up and brought in, as stalks wither and blooms crumble away.
For E, this is the first year that seasons are within her grasp of reasoning, and she sings songs that I want to scribble down and save forever.
“Leaving leaves, fall away.
Browns and reds, yay yay yay.”
She and her sister dance and fall as we sing.
“Run around the pumpkin,
I ate too much candy,
Ouchies, ouchies!
We all fall down!”
Entertaining, yes. Not so much promise on the creative front.
Our trees are only halfway bare, with the hopeful promise of at least another week’s worth of stopping to admire the perfect shade of red maple and blazing backdrops for the sunset. The bees are slowing down as they gather the last sweet drops, and the squirrels chastise us as we kick through the piles of leaves on the ground and unearth their future treasures. Just a tiny bit longer for all of us. Then the flower garden will fade away and the pumpkins will freeze and we’ll have to find a new wonderment in our next favorite season.

GORGEOUS photos! I especially love the last one!
Great captures! I, too, love the last one!
Love the last two shots, but the last one is awesome! Totally captures the bliss of playing with leaves.
Have I mentioned that you should be a pro photographer? Once or twice? Make this three times.
I agree with burghbaby!!
