Another One Bites The Dust

One whole year ago, I was booting 2009 out the door, ready to be rid of the entire chain of events that had happened. We started off the first month of 2010 in a new house, new city and new job. It was a giant leap into a new life and it felt great. January was the month of spreading our wings as a family.

In February, we found ourselves snowed in, and the husband jetted off for Hawaii after walking a mile to a plowed road. I shoveled the driveway and met all of our crazy neighbors, unimpressed with tales of sunshine and pineapples.

In March, we started to widen our explorations, finding hidden gems in our own town, and venturing down to DC for a little more culture. E settled in to her preschool and we waited for spring to really arrive.

In April, we made two treks back to Ohio, one for Easter and one for a massive double birthday bash. I astounded myself and successfully made two cakes that were not only edible, but delicious. We dove headfirst into THREE and I slowly came to terms with my baby turning one.

In May, the mountains beckoned and we found ourselves relaxing on a much needed camping trip. Fire cooked meals, daily hikes and a bathtub in the woods. Nothing better.

In June, we made our first trip to the Eastern Shore and hit the beaches of Delaware. MJ was thrilled with her first real beach experience, and E let us know how much she had missed the ocean.

In July, the husband and I got a real date! That was the highlight of the month, followed closely by the endless days spent at the local pool. Hot, hot summer and lots of lazy days.

In August, we found ourselves with a very busy month. Trips to Ohio, the husband on business, playing with neighborhood chickens, a Jazz Fest in our backyard and sleepless night after sleepless night with MJ.

In September, we packed up for another much needed vacation, this time in Hilton Head. We frolicked and swam, tanned and ate, slept and explored. A quick trip to our old home of Savannah completed the week.

In October, we embraced the cooler weather, stomping in the leaves and planning our Halloween costumes. My hard drive failed and I nearly had a nervous breakdown waiting to recover my files. This was also the month that we all came down with the plague.

In November, we continued to pass the sickness around, again and again, only rarely escaping the house for a breath of fresh air. 30 Days of Thankfulness took us through Thanksgiving and a not-so-fun health diagnosis for my favorite cat.

In December, we decked the halls and strung the lights and went all out on a fancy family picture. I sewed up a storm and sent out stacks of orders for Christmas, then packed away my fabric and got to work in the kitchen with my new present to myself. Christmas came and went and here we are . .

About to leap into 2011 with another move, another fresh start. I’m not exactly kicking this year out the door, but I cannot wait for what the next one has in store.
