Celebrating The Three Out of Her

Posted By on April 18, 2011

To everyone out there who has repeatedly told me that age four is a million times better than three . . . yes, I’m looking at you . . . there’s a slight grace period you never told me about, now isn’t there?

Over the weekend, we kicked three to the curb and welcomed four in with open arms. And, apparently, very high hopes. It’s been 24 hours of official four time and, well, I’m just chalking it up to a continuing sugar high and some serious entitlement issues that we may have fed into in the past couple of days. Because, really? Whooo-boy, have I found myself wanting to drown in leftover cake at the end of the day thanks to a certain someone and their little attitude.

Cake. Always there when you can’t drink away your sorrows.

Really though, despite that much needed attitude adjustment, we had a wonderful, celebration packed weekend . . .

First, there were new, hand-crafted party girl outfits and numerous practice runs of singing “Happy Birthday”.

It’s not a good song if you don’t dance along to it. Or, so they say.

Then, there was a Mexican dinner of quesadillas and rice, followed by a key lime cake with raspberry frosting, topped with a specifically requested pair of unicorns with purple manes and tails.

Had to be two. And had to be purple.

After the cake came the obligatory sombrero and singing waiters.

More singing! Yay!

The next day brought more singing, more candles, and more sugar at another dinner.

Icing overload.

And finally, on Sunday, her actual birthday, there was yet another cake, another set of candles and even more singing.

Lots of singing.

Lots of icing.

Sugar coma process – complete.

If all that hasn’t kicked the last of the THREE out of her, I don’t know what else will.

FOUR, you have a lot of expectations to live up to!

Happy Birthday E. I hope four brings less frustration. But just know that you are incredibly lucky to have such a spirited young girls. Other moms should be so lucky.

And I SWEAR four really is better than three. I wouldn’t get your hopes up for nothing, you know. And, really, does it matter since the other one is barreling towards three? Heh.
