It’s Blue!!!

An incompetent paralegal down here owes me a tank of gas and nearly two hours of cell phone minutes.
After finally finding out the total needed in closing costs – just five hours before closing – I spent two hours on the phone with an incompetent bank attempting a wire transfer. Which they couldn’t do. So I found myself having to drive over an hour away to a branch of that bank to physically do the wire transfer, and being helped by the most incompetent manager in Virginia. With, of course, two children in tow that are completely sick of the car.
My favorite part of the day? When I received an email from that paralegal just as I was walking into the bank. An email to let me know she figured our closing costs wrong, and the total was over $3000 less than what she originally told me.
Which meant I never had to spend those hours on the phone. And I never had to waste three hours getting to and from the bank. I could have simply wired that much smaller amount from our beloved regular bank with nothing more than a five minute phone call.
We made it to the closing ten minutes late and I swore up and down that anyone commenting on our lateness was getting kicked.
This has been the most aggravating, most infuriating, most Murphy’s Law filled process I’ve ever encountered. But . . . but . . .
We are now, once again, homeowners.

I like your method of stress immediately before closing better than ours. We got the, “We calculated wrong” call about 20 minutes before closing and had to scrape up $4000 out of thin air. It was The One Moment in my blogging career when my husband had to shut up and be grateful for the time suck because all the money I had squirreled away for Alexis had to be tapped. But it least I didn’t have to spend 3 hours in a car. ;-)
