The Grand {Indoor} Tour

Posted By on June 23, 2011

Welcome to the itty-bitty, teensy-tiny, blue house. Come on in.

Don’t mind my purse – I haven’t found a home for that yet.

And don’t trip over those three boxes – which happen to be the only things left to find a place for.

(Yes, that means the entire house is completely unpacked, sorted, and properly put together – aside from pictures on the walls and a few coats of paint. In just three days. You can hate me now. Blame it on some crazy pregnancy nesting thing.)

Over here, we have the living room. Lacking only something awesome to hang over the couch. And, maybe some new pillows.

This room is easily my favorite, especially considering how it all magically came together without us having to get rid of any more furniture – even our beloved and ratty Lazy-Boy. I’ll rearrange the stuff on the mantle fifteen times, but other than that, I love it.

Even the fish found a place – after surviving in a cooler for four days, being sloshed about from place to place.

If you’ll follow me back past the front door, we’ll check out the dining room. The poor, poor dining room that will be first in line for a fresh coat of paint to cover the blood red walls and gray molding.

Gray. Really. Who in their right mind paints molding gray?

Moving on, we’ll head into the kitchen which, despite my horrid pictures, is really quite amazing. I was just in a fight with my kit lens today, which I clearly need in these tiny rooms, and couldn’t manage to stand still enough. So, blurry it is, since I’m exhausted enough to not care about retaking everything.

The slate floors are crazy cool, the appliances are all new, and the paint color is even perfect for us. It’s like the jackpot of all kitchens.

Except for the faucet. That’s my only complaint. Some silly, backwards design that just needs to go. I’m having deep thoughts about our old faucet.

Heading down the hallway – past my “laundry room” behind those bi-fold doors – we’ll pass one minuscule bathroom and check out the extra room.

Turning around for one more peek at the kitchen, and my perfect window that looks out on the yard, as I yell for the girls to clean up their mess in the other room.

All clean! Welcome to the playroom/guest room/office. The room eventually to function as the catch-all.

There’s a spot for every toy.

And a corner for a future desk.

Which we are now finding out, is going to be near impossible to find – tall, skinny, perfect – apparently those are tough parameters.

Back through the living room and up the stairs will bring us to the girls’ room.

Already the right color to match their quilts, and big enough for everything to fit.

She approves.

And only requests a rainbow on the wall.

Easy to please, this one is.

I’ve got big plans for finishing touches in here. Big, big plans.

Turning back out into the hallway, we’ll head towards the “master bedroom”.

Past the second minuscule bathroom.

And into our humble bedroom.

With that tiny little spot by the window being saved for a certain someone joining us in October.

Good thing babies don’t take up much room in the beginning – because there isn’t much left to go around!

All in all, we love this house. Just a few days in and it feels like home, as comfortable as we’ve ever been. Scaling down by 1000 square feet has been quite the challenge, but we’ve learned so much about what we really need in our home. We’re still a bit cozy, and so much more could be given up, but this is the start of a wonderful opportunity to think creatively about our surroundings. Organization is going to be an important part of this house, or everything will just pile up around us.

I hope you enjoyed your tour of the beginnings of our little blue house. I can’t wait to share in all the ways we learn to live in it.

Those slate floors are gorgeous. I love your house. LOVE. The reason I feel in love with my house was because it was as close to “cottagey” as I could come with the square feet we needed. I love cottagey. And thats pretty amazing you have it all done already.

I think that’s why we fell in love with this one – so not the square feet we’ll eventually need, but oozing on the cutesy, cottage feel.

I love it so pretty and what color is that in the living room/kitchen?? Its a very pretty color.

The living room is like a denim blue, and the kitchen is a blue-ish slate gray color. We have a ton of paint cans in a closet, but I haven’t dug through them to see if any match up and have the names on them.

I can’t believe you are already unpacked. How did you do that? We have been here 2 months, and I still have rooms full of boxes!

I love your house. The wall colors are great, the slate floor is awesome, the mantle is wonderful. It looks perfect! Great job.

That’s the beauty of a tiny house and two crazy kids running all over it – absolutely no room for boxes to be tripped over! Organization out of necessity :-)
