And The Car Goes Vroom

One week ago, the husband drove off into the sunset in my beloved Xterra. The tough, rugged and super macho SUV that could get out of almost any situation I found myself in. (We won’t talk about the time I burned up the clutch trying to back out a driveway. Nope. Not talking about that one.) It was the very first car the husband and I bought together, way back when the idea of a growing family was just talk. With so many ridiculously awesome little things, it was the perfect car for me. We had nearly buried it in snow, doused it in sand, and coated it in mud. It hauled a half pallet of sod, loaded into the back, and countless bags of mulch, plants and trees. Each move had it filled to the brim with the priceless possessions we couldn’t leave behind. It had been puked in, probably peed in, and coated with crumbs. Up and down the entire eastern United States we went, thousands of miles put on between this home and that.
Needless to say, I loved my car.
For months, I fought the idea of getting rid of it. No matter how many times we discussed the upgrade, no matter how much of a pain in the ass it seemed to stick three kids in the one backseat, I just couldn’t let it go. I ignored the idea. I kicked and screamed and dug in my heels. I clung so tightly to the last shred of that before kids life that we had, rebelling hard against the very thought of driving a soccer mom vehicle.
And then the time came. And away he drove, in my car.
And now? Now there’s this new car. One week later, and I’m ready to admit that it really isn’t that bad. (That’s about as far as I’ll go – not that bad.) We can fit everyone and everything we could ever want into it. It gets better gas mileage. It’s got a few awesome features to play with. And . . . umm . . . it gets better radio reception that the old one . . .

The girls absolutely love it though. So there is that, I suppose . . .

That’s awesome! I want a pilot (the SUV) and I love the color. Congrats
I felt the same way about losing my longtime car, Ludwig. I couldn’t even look at him in the sell lot.
I have seriously always wanted an Xterra, so I’m all HOW COULD YOU!?!? No clue why I love Xterras, but I do. A lot.
The new car is purdy, though!
I think I’m going to miss mine forever. I wanted one ever since I started driving. Began with a Jeep, moved up to the Xterra.
You could HOSE the entire inside of the car out if you needed to. What is not to love about that?
Oh bigger car with third row can only mean one thing : You are so ready for number 4!!!!
Don’t hate, I am just messing with you. Congratulations on the new car. Its very pretty and better radio reception is just awesome.
Is it wrong that I totally thought “hmm, we could totally fit another kid in here if they would all just buckle their own damn seatbelts?”
Or just more proof that I’m crazy?
I have had a Pilot for almost 7 years (pre kids and now with one kid) and I LOVE it! I also used it when I was a nanny and had three seats in the back. Love the color!
That isn’t a “soccer mom car”. Sheesh. I thought you were going to have a picture of you in some Town and Country or something. We have had a Honda Pilot since loooong before kids becuase it is just an AWESOME car. I have a feeling that the first time you take it on a long trip you will LOVE it and wonder what you ever did without it.
Congrats!
Oh, I know it’s not a true “soccer mom car”, but around here it seems like it – since there are at least five in every kid centered parking lot!
And yeah, we’ve already learned how awesome it will be to have the extra room on trips – and goodness knows we need it.
