You Capture: Fall(ing)

Fall(ing behind)

Fall(ing in love)

Fall(ing asleep)

We’ve been doing all of these things lately. Despite having a parade of family staying with us to help out over these first few weeks, the dust bunnies are multiplying, the spiders are occupying more and more corners, and the laundry just never makes it back into the closet. But, that’s okay. Our time has been better spent endlessly counting fingers and toes, kissing sweet cheeks and staring into a set of deep blue eyes. Those eyes may be open more often than not during the wee hours of the night, and exhaustion may be setting in so hard that a simple task like uploading a few pictures gives way to simply sitting in the rocking chair and watching episode after episode of cooking shows.

The days are blurring together, rushing past far too quickly. The holidays are barreling down like a freight train, and the entire season of autumn is about to be gone. I had grand plans – a trip to Skyline Drive for another picture of the girls, another day at the apple orchard, strolls through brightly colored trees lining our sidewalks – but this demanding mini-me of the husband has sidetracked all of that. Instead, the two of us are enjoying watching the colors shine and counting the leaves that fall, all from a very special spot in the house. Here I’ve learned just how different diaper changes are between boys and girls, how far pee really can go, and how I’ll never have enough sleepers to skip a day of laundry. Here I watch as he grows, finding something new and exciting to look at every time. His eyes search around, he squeaks and gurgles in that way that only a newborn can and slays me with cuteness every time.

The brilliant orange that greets us, glowing with the morning sunrise – this is our fall. The fluttering reds and yellows, floating past the window – this is our fall. The season that added such a joy to our hearts – this is our fall.

What a sweetheart! And what a gorgeous photo. I bet you’ll look back on it for years and years and years and remember exactly how you spent this fall. Those are my favorite kinds of photos, the ones that take you back to a certain time in your life.

I’m not even sure I can express how much I adore that photo. WOW. And your words, just as gorgeous.
